Rhön farmhouse in Kaltenwestheim
Our farmhouse in Thuringia was built at the beginning of the 20th century by a local carpenter and his family, mainly in half-timbered construction. It was one of the few houses to survive a village fire in the final turmoil of the Second World War. We have lovingly renovated the house and tried to preserve the old character of the house in many places, e.g. the original wooden floorboards in some rooms, old window openings reopened.
The farmhouse is built on a slight slope. It offers space on 170m2, spread over the first floor, 1st floor and the attic, which has been converted into a large room. The cozy farmhouse is fully equipped. There are a total of 5 bedrooms, a kitchen with adjoining dining room, 2 daylight shower rooms with WC and a large living room in the attic. It offers a relaxing stay for up to 10 people. In good weather, you can also use the terrace for a barbecue, for example. There is an adjoining storage room with another fridge.
The house is located in the Thuringian Rhön, in the former border area to Hesse, so that e.g. hikes along the green belt are very well possible. The highest mountain "Ellenbogen" of the Thuringian Rhön can be reached perfectly by a hike from the house. Natural building materials such as clay plaster, soft wood fiber boards, well-insulated, rear-ventilated and untreated larch wood facade, old floorboards supplemented by Rhön oak floorboards and wooden windows ensure a very good indoor climate. Carpentry work made from Berlin reclaimed wood, original Rhön farmhouse furniture combined with modern components underline the cozy and authentic ambience.
The entire house is non-smoking.
Facilities
General: A charging station for electric cars can be used in the courtyard after consultation and the barn can be used to store a car, bicycles, baby carriages and other bulky items. A gas and charcoal barbecue is available for your use. . 2 cots are available on request. There are also various play facilities and a high chair for younger guests (more on request). The modern central heating in combination with good insulation with natural building materials ensures a pleasant indoor climate everywhere. All bedrooms can be darkened for a good night's sleep. The Wi-Fi is very good throughout the house thanks to repeaters. You also have a LAN connection in almost all rooms. Pets are also welcome in our farmhouse.
First floor: On the first floor of the farmhouse there are 3 cozy bedrooms and 2 bright daylight bathrooms.
Bedroom 1 has a large bedroom of approx. 20 m2, in which a small kitchenette with washing machine is also integrated. The double bed measures 180x200cm and there is a desk complemented by a closet and display cabinet. A Lan socket is available. Bathroom no. 1 with shower and WC can be reached through this bedroom (master bedroom)
Bedroom 2 has approx. 14m2. It is furnished with a double bed 180x200cm, a desk and chest of drawers. A Lan socket is available.
Bedroom 3 is approx. 8m2 in size and has a double bunk bed with a lying surface of 90x200cm each. A chest of drawers and coat hooks provide storage space.
Bathroom 2 with shower and WC is freely accessible through the hallway and has the same layout as bathroom 1.
First floor: On the 1st floor there are 2 bedrooms, kitchen and dining room.
The dining room has an open passageway to the kitchen. The large dining table seats up to 10 people. A small table from the kitchen can be used as an extension. The dining room is approx. 20m2 in size. Games and other things for daily use are also stored here.
The adjoining kitchen is fully equipped, e.g. stove with oven and extractor hood with external extractor, dishwasher, filter coffee machine, toaster, fridge-freezer, microwave and enough equipment to avoid having to use the dishwasher every day. Cleaning products, kitchen towels, coffee and tea ensure a pleasant start to your vacation.
Bedrooms 4 and 5 are also located on the 1st floor. Bedroom 4 is approx. 14m2 in size. It has a double bed 180x200cm, a desk, Lan socket and a wardrobe. Bedroom 5 is approx. 12m2 in size and has a 160x200cm double bed, a desk, a wardrobe and a Lan socket.
Attic: The attic with approx. 50m2 floor space is completely developed. In addition to a cozy sofa corner with TV (cable plus streaming services), books, radio plays and CDs, DVDs, there is another large dining table. The room invites you to linger and also offers the opportunity to work together.
Terrace: The terrace is located in front of the entrance door and is approx. 20m2 in size, charcoal and gas barbecue, large parasol and table with chairs are available. There is also a storage room in the barn with another fridge. Drinks, for example, can be stored here in summer. There is shelter for cars, motorcycles and bicycles in the barn.

The house can be booked for 3 nights or more. The final cleaning fee is 80 euros. 30.- Euro flat rate for dogs. 10% discount from 7 nights. Shorter stays - such as weekends - by arrangement. A deposit is requested.

Let yourself be enchanted by the fascinating atmosphere of the region
The Rhöner Bauernhaus Thüringen and the Rhöner Scheunenwohnungen Thüringen are located in the UNESCO Rhön Biosphere Reserve at an altitude of approx. 480 metres in the central Rhön, not far from the Hessian border.
Numerous beautiful hikes can be undertaken from the house, including to the highest mountain in the Thuringian Rhön, the Ellenbogen. In summer, you can also explore the area on a mountain or e-mountain bike. A bike hire shop, which also offers guided tours, is located in the neighbouring village. Good shopping facilities can be reached within a radius of 5 km (also by bike).
There are 2 outdoor swimming pools nearby (5 and 12 km) for cooling off on warm days, and one or two bathing lakes can also be reached by car. From May to October, life in the countryside is characterised by numerous village and folk festivals. It is always worth keeping an eye out for announcements.
In winter, well-groomed cross-country ski trails invite you to go cross-country skiing in suitable weather conditions, and sledging with children is also very possible.
You can also make beautiful excursions, e.g. to Fulda, Meinigen (state theatre), Eisenach, the Thuringian Forest, e.g. Oberhof as a winter sports stronghold in Thuringia. The peace and quiet and the clear starry sky are unrivalled.
Even in bad weather, an indoor playground offers variety for children, and various catering options can be ideally combined with excursions. You can buy eggs, pasta and various other tasty things from the local farmer, and a tour of the farm can be perfectly combined with this. In addition to the small village playground, there is also the opportunity to play football.
